The University of Abertay Dundee is seeking to strengthen its research and teaching programmes in Sciences and Engineering.

5 Academic Positions in Environmental Sciences & Engineering:

Chair/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer (4 permanent posts) + Post Doctoral Researcher (1 post, 12 months)

The University of Abertay is seeking to strengthen its research and teaching programmes in Environmental Sciences and Engineering.  Appointed individuals will work within two of the Universities' leading research and knowledge exchange groups: the Scottish Informatics, Mathematics, Biology and Statistics (SIMBIOS) Centre; and the Urban Water Technology Centre (UWTC) within the School of Contemporary Sciences.

The SIMBIOS Centre is an inter-disciplinary research team of physicists, biologists, experimental scientists, and mathematicians, focusing on ecosystem functioning, microscopic complexity of soils and it is internationally recognised for biophysical modelling.  SIMBIOS hosts excellent facilities including a micro-tomography suite with two X-ray machines.  The UWTC focus is on improving sustainability of urban and natural environments both above and beloow ground through development of technologies for drainage, waste and wastewater treatment and management and novel systems for their assessment and communication.

Applicants with expertise in X-ray, CT, (theoretical) ecology, fluid dynamics, or complex system modelling, water engineering, geotechnical engineering, construction materials or disciplines complimentary to those in SIMBIOS and UWTC are strongly encouraged to apply.  Applicants will have a PhD (or equivalent) in any relevant area and, for senior lecturer or Chair appointment, will have a track record of high quality research evidenced by publications and underpinned by grant income.  Appointees will be expected to contribute to the School's teaching portfolio, including undergraduate Civil Engineering, Sustainable Design and Renewable Energy Technologies and a suite of Environment Masters programmes.  For the 12 month PDRA we are seeking candidates with interest in image analysis and X-ray CT.

Please contact Prof W. Otten (SIMBIOS, w.otten@abertay.ac.uk ) or Dr D Blackwood (UWTC, d.blackwood@abertay.ac.uk ) for informal discussions.

You must apply via our online recruitment jobs board which can be found at http://www.abertay.ac.uk/jobs/

The closing date for applications is 12 December 2012.
