Abertay welcomes international partners to the final formal ADEPT project meeting
The ADEPT project is a Newton-funded (ESRC / Fapemig) project lead by Middlesex University, and in collaboration with UFMG, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil and Abertay University

ADEPT is a Newton-funded project with a focus on urban development in large cities (such as Belo Horizonte and Sao Paulo) which have been rapidly expanding over recent years. Delivering basic services can be problem in these areas and the focus of the project is the provision of Green infrastructure through water management (a research specialty at Abertay / UWTC), critically we are looking at the multiple benefits ( ecosystem service benefits – ESB) that can be delivered through greenspace/ green infrastructure and we are considering how equal the access to these benefits are within the communities (is access to these spaces and the ESB gender biased?). We have been using a mobile phone App to gather some of our data and our Brazilian colleagues have been working directly with communities in Brazil, using the app and interviews. These will help us to deliver on some of the more academic and applied issues related to the project.

The April meeting was the final formal meeting of the project, bringing together the UK and Brazilian partners as well as other invited guests from the UK research community who have an interest in Brazil and/or the Global south.

The Abertay academics involved in the ADEPT project are Dr Rebecca Wade and Dr Ken Scott-Brown
